Game
Siblings: who you areSI
Who you are. The four siblings, brother or sister, your own face and your own voice, picked before a new game so the intro already stars you.
There are always four of you. Each player is one of four spoiled siblings, a brother or a sister, with their own name, face and voice. You make yours before the game starts, so the very first shot of the intro is your face on the diving board and your voice saying how good life is.
The player's view
Before a new game. You pick New game, and the "Who are you?" screen opens on your sibling standing in their default clothes, turning slowly. You type a name, pick brother or sister, then the face: hair, beard, skin, hair colour, the googly eyes (how far apart, how big, where the pupils look). Then the voice: four brother voices or four sister voices, each with a play button that says a line from the intro in that voice. You press Ready. The intro starts, and that's you belly-flopping into the pool.
With friends. Everyone connected does the same, at the same time, each on their own screen. Your friends' siblings appear next to yours as they get made, and a tick shows who's ready. Two of you can't take the same voice: a voice someone already picked is greyed out. The siblings nobody plays get the faces and voices left over.
Later. Your clothes change at the closet in the siblings' room (built). Your face and voice stay the ones you picked.
Ideas
SI1: your face before a new game
The built "Who are you?" card (name, brother or sister) becomes a full screen, shown on every new game and the first time a guest joins a company. It reuses the closet screen (the live 3D preview, its hair, beard, colour and eye sections, the face zoom) with the outfit locked to the default one: clothes come later, at the closet, and the intro dresses everyone its own way (ST1, ST2).
- Sections, in order: name, brother or sister, height and frame (CH14), hair, beard (brothers and sisters alike), skin, hair colour, eyes, glasses (CH14), voice (SI2).
- A random button rolls a whole face (seeded from the clock: this is a menu, not the sim).
- Defaults: the screen opens on a look that differs per slot, so four friends who press Ready at once still look different.
- Ready: saves the look with the built
SetLookCommandand the name and body as today. - Co-op at a new game: the host's intro waits until every connected player is ready. The host can start anyway
after
readyWait; a guest who isn't ready plays with the screen's current look. - Old saves: players who already picked keep their look; their voice is set by SI2's migration.
Needs: the closet screen (built) · Done when: a new game opens the screen, the chosen face shows in the intro and in the game; in 2-player co-op both players make their sibling before the intro and see each other's.
SI2: four voices per side
Eight sibling voices: four brothers, four sisters. Each player picks one on the SI1 screen; it's saved in their
PlayerLook and every sibling line plays in it (the intro, the ego quips, every line a sibling says).
- The cast: brother 1 is the built "Kiddo" voice, sister 1 the built "Body B" voice. Six new ones are designed, each a clearly different spoiled heir, for example: brothers = a smug baritone, a nasal preppy voice, a laid-back surfer drawl; sisters = a posh drawl, a bubbly fast talker, a husky deadpan.
- No duplicates in a company: a voice another sibling of the company already has is greyed out. A player who switches brother/sister moves to the first free voice of that side.
- Default siblings (the intro's siblings with no player, ST1) take the free voices, in order.
- Preview: each voice plays one short intro line ("This is our house. Well. Dad's house.").
- Clips: every sibling line is generated in all eight voices. Today that's 4 lines outside the intro plus about 35 in it: about 320 clips, made by the voice export, on the free v4 model.
- Old saves: a player without a voice gets the first free voice of their side.
Needs: SI1 · Done when: four brothers in a company would have four different voices; in 2-player co-op each player hears the other's sibling in the voice that player picked, in the intro and in the game.
Tuning
| Name | Value | Idea | What it does / why |
|---|---|---|---|
voicesPerSide | 4 | SI2 | Four players can all be brothers (or sisters) and still sound different. |
readyWait | 60 s | SI1 | How long the host waits for guests before Start appears anyway: never a dead end. |
Co-op
- Who owns it: each player owns their own sibling; the look and voice go through the built
SetLookCommand, run by the host like any command, and sync in the company state. - What each player sees: their own SI1 screen; the other siblings appear in the preview row with a ready tick.
- Voice clashes: the host's company state decides. Two players picking the same free voice at the same moment: the first command wins, the second is refused and that player's screen moves to the next free voice.
- Joining later: a guest joining an existing company sees SI1 the first time (the built rule for the card), with the voices still free.
- Solo: one sibling, the same screen, every voice free.
Tech
- Save:
PlayerLook.voice(int, 0-3) next to the builtPlayerData.body; old saves migrate per SI2. - Voices: the cast grows from
you_a/you_btoyou_a1-you_a4andyou_b1-you_b4inArtSource/voice/lines.json;Voice.Clippicks the clip by the speaking sibling's body and voice. New voices are designed in ElevenLabs (never "phone" or "voicemail" in a description: effects are added in Unity). - Code: the card is in
Assets/_Game/Scripts/UI/HubStory.cs; the closet screen andLooks(Sim) are reused. - Tests:
Looksrules (voice range, no duplicates, migration) as edit-mode tests next to the built LooksTests.
Open questions
- Does the voice preview line come from the intro, or a short "Hi, I'm..." line per voice?
Rejected
- Two voices plus a pitch step: four brothers would sound like one guy a little higher or lower.
- Voice fixed by slot: you'd hear yourself in a voice you never chose.
- Clothes on the new-game screen: the intro dresses everyone (swimwear, suits, bathrobes) and the closet already changes clothes in the game.
